Collage works

After my tutorial with Susanne, I have been thinking how to use paper for my works and related everyday life. My background is photography, so I have thought that I should use photograph for ages and even I am unhappy using photograph.So I talked about that to Patricia and she suggested that not using photo images if my work doesn't match it.


So I changed my mind and I started making collage using cardboard.I have been thinking how much paper we use a day....we use paper a lot, almost everyday in office, school, home....so on. I thought I would like to make something with used paper from our daily life.

when I was making these objet, somehow I couldn't enjoy it. Because there is no concept , the only thing I could agree is using paper.
so Patricia also said that it is just aesthetic, which is good for paper craft but it is not art. I agree with her opinion.

 I took some cardboard from the shop in ECA and put paper from the library. Compare with the works above, I can satisfy and agree with my concept while I was making.

the last tutorial

When I had the last tutorial I talked about making collage but actually the idea haven't been clear I did some of it on the back of the everyday photos but some people suggested to make collage works separately when I had group tutorial. Since then I have stopped making it....as I was also thinking make it separately and do it on sketchbook instead. We discussed about that but my tutor thinks do it on the back would be interesting...I should decide as soon as possible! (I am struggling...)

Then I talked about next project,which is using photocopy, focus on paper as material. I made like canvas with cardboard and covered it with dyed paper by tea. But I haven't got proper concept of it, that is big problem....so I could not explain very well today.I should keep on experimenting and hopefully I could make the answer by after Easter holiday.

C02project-9 opening and crit

We had c02 project on Thursday as there was Animal Territories Exhibition on Friday and we had crit on Friday from 12pm.
I think we did very well, I was worrying that my work and Patricia's metal and frozen ammonite works went well but it seemed to be good. 


Rima made very interesting film for the project. She made a white box and there was a slide show with sounds of her breathing which was really nice sounds and it goes very well with her blak and white images.When I put my face into the box, I felt like I was in water or sea.  On the other hand, Patricia's works were very scientific. I always respect her passion for her works. The frozen ammonite looks very beautiful and it was fragile, it melted for about 2hours, that made me very strong impression than normal objet. 
We could get valuable feedback however to be honest, to explain or write feedback from others in the blog is very difficult for me. some of words are very abstract I could understand what they think or feel of our project but to change into language is difficult. 
Many people showed their interest in Patricia's work especially the process and method. In addition, the sound from the box (Rima's work) got good feed back. We could use a whole space using each creativity. I used the whole walls in the space from top to down,we could have good opinion about that.






Actually, it was the first time for me to work with other people and without using photographs,I would say it was my first installation show. I really enjoyed it and learned a lot from it as well as it was a big pressure. Everything was new experience! I found that I should learn how to exhibit my works and collaborate others.

Group tutorial-2

I signed up Kristin for group tutorial and our group were with  Graeme's group as there were just two people so we were five in all . I was the last speaker and didn't expect to talk to more than three people that made me a bit nervous.While I was explaining, somehow I got confused what I want to say,so it was not very good group tutorial for me. However when it finished, Kristin let me ask about my works more detail, we could have good tutorial as we were just two of us... I explained a little about another idea for my next work. Although I haven't decided what to do clearly yet, I have been thinking making something related with my childhood memories. I hope it would be getting clear by this summer. I tried to explain the idea as much as possible to her and she listened my thought very carefully and she gave good feedback. Unfortunately my presentation didn't go very well this time but I appreciated her consideration.

Since Rima and Patricia have decided their works, I decided to make wave using white strings and I needed to think what color would go well with their works and the space. They seem to use for their works mainly black, white or some material Patricia uses are metal or stones so I chose to use black and dyed the cotton string black.

It will be first time for me to have group exhibition. I was waiting that what Rima and Patricia will make for the project because I would like to keep good harmony for three of us works so even if i had something strong intention, it wouldn't much well, I would not be very happy and that is not point of the group work. So 
I needed to wait for them. This way of thinking might be too reserved but somehow it is good and natural way for me.


They seem to use floor and make some objets, I think I can use the walls in the space. The walls in the c02 are white, it is like a big canvas, if I use all walls, it would be interesting?


Then I was thinking how to describe waves on the walls.
(I have already had image of it↓)It is very simple line but I guess it would go well with other two works?

Tutorial with Susanne

I had tutorial with Susanne today, I felt like I haven't had one for ages. So I needed to talk about what I have been doing since the last tutorial. 


I have been thinking making collage which related with everyday life. So I tried to find something I can use for my collage works. When I was looking outside from the window in my room, I found a plastic back which was hanging on the tree in the street and it was moving slowly. (it was hung because of wind) Not hanging on trees but I often see a lot of plastic backs in the streets,which is shame but I chose it for my collage.


I scanned a TESCO plastic back and tried to make a collage on the back of the everyday photo, and took some picture of milk lids which was very interesting experiment.I have never looked a plastic back very carefully,(maybe no one) I found that in a way, it is very designed and we see it almost everyday. I was thinking how I can make this idea for my works. 


While I was making and thinking the collage, I thought about the confusion that fills our lives. Even we don't notice the messages on the plastic bags,there are so many messages or much information in our daily life. I talked about these thoughts to Susanne and she found the idea of the collage is interesting. I haven't had clear vision of the collage, but using paper for mu works will be one of the point in future.

THE FAIR-3

It was the last day for the Fair and we took the boxes and delivered to each person who involved our letter exchange project.
