Tutorial for theory

 I had a tutorial for theory class.We had three theory classes so far but I was very struggling to understand what the teacher and classmates say and contents of the texts. So I needed to explain  my situation to my teacher. (I was in a panic every tuesday for theory class ) Thankfully, she understood my situation and gave me good advice.
I explain my project which has just began, she recommended some books.

The book refers to what is the everyday? 
The author edits picking up essays and articles  by various artists and curators. How contemporary art involves with 'the everyday'  

Mixed Triad Crits 1

 It was first mixed triad crits.
I had no idea how it goes....I was first speaker and showed my project which has not been done properly.


I explained using some images and showed my notebook which I am recording my daily life.
(I didn't show the contents though...) 

They gave me really nice feedbacks and one unexpected feedback was that the notebook also  should be part of works and show it to other. It could be one of my works but I have never thought showing other, because there are silly words,idea and my ordinary daily life...but it would be nice idea as the idea came from my ordinary lives.


It was a first mixed crits but I am so sorry I could not give good feedback to them. I did not know them that much and had never spoken with them before.Therefor I couldn't get well what they are doing exactly(also my listening problem...) Hopefully I could do better for the next mixed crits and get used to it.

When I learned the word 'ambient' it was through music.
I try to find the word in Japanese, there is appropriate word
and explanation however it sound strange.




ambient (especially of music) creating a relaxed atmosphere
a complication of ambient electronic music
relating to the surrounding area.


that was a just my knowledge which related the ambient.

I don't remember exactly when the idea come up with my mind.I have been taking photos of the meadows these days and I thought that if I took it everyday what would happen to me? When I was a child I wondered why people often say 'to keep something everyday is good things' 'How good?' There was no one to explain that. 
Now I am trying to start it and hopefully I could get the answer and would explain me in my childhood.


In the tutorial I showed some images and I talked about the idea to my tutor. When my tutor mentioned photographer Bernd and Hilla Becher, I fond that I seem to like geometric works. I had known  their works and it was one of my favorite art works when I was a student in Japan but I didn't link this project to their works.
so it would be great to bring my memory back and think about typology for my project.

  

Recording my daily life

I don't know the reason why but since I came to Edinburgh,I often think about time.And I asked myself what did I yesterday? or the day before yesterday?
When I could not answer it, I felt sudden fear, so I started to write things I have done on a notebook since September before staring the course. It is not diary but I wrote silly ideas or interesting things and some comments.
One day,when I tried to drawn some images....I was disappointed my awful drawing.I thought I could do a bit better.
I strongly thought I need to recover my creativity but I thought if I did not keep this recording,I would not notice my awful drawing.
Since I started recording daily life, I found many new things which I didn't notice for instance, how many hours I spend time on the Internet or wasting of time. However,when I read the notebook again,I could feel that I am progressing just a little by little.
I could see my everyday live in these notebooks. 

The meadows

When you have got an idea, what are you doing normally?

In my case,I just try to keep walking.(Edinburgh must be good for me for walking). I was walking in the Meadows and I often compare to park in Tokyo.There are nice parks but it is not very open.When I do to park in Tokyo, going to a park often be purpose in the day.

The meadow shows different scenes all year around to us.When I found beautiful scene,I take a photo of it without intention. But I realized that every time I take photo of the meadow, all the photos look the same.(most of it are taken sunny day) and I always pass the meadows but I don't remember how it looked yesterday.

But I often recommend the park to people. I was just thinking about that.ask to myself and write down it on my notebook.'What can I do in the meadows?'

IDEA FOR MY PROJECT

After my tutorial and groom meeting, I was thinking about  how I would make my works.
Before coming to Scotland, one of my aim was taking landscape photo of islands in this country but I realized that I am too busy to go to islands....first I need to get used the course
in ECA. My tutor let me talk about one of interesting island St Kilda. I didn't know about the island at all, it sounds very remote place and could be very quiet. I imagined life in the place.
I tried to research it but unfortunately it seemed not to easy to get there. According to a website, currently, the only year-round residents are defense personnel although a variety of conservation works, volunteers and scientists spend time there in the summer month.
I was disappointed that I didn't know about island culture at all I should learn about that but why am I interested in such a remote place?I still don't know myself.

 

                                           


What I can do in Edinburgh? I realized that even I had proper plan to do something but it would transform depends on situation, I also need transform myself for each. 
I would use another idea for my works. (Going up to North of Scotland.. could be next year?)

Group critic 1

It was first group critic since the course started. I have met other three 2year students. It was good chance to know what other students are working on their art works. I just introduce myself and talked about what I am interested in. I could not bring my big 
A3 portfolios with me from Japan so I showed a small handmade photo book for them.

I use digital camera but I haven't got good way to show people
(using pc or upload on the Internet so on)
I usually print it out to photo paper or normal paper and I guess people shown as a book, their reaction seem to be different from looking at photos on pc or mobile.There are various ways to show photos nowadays so I should consider and find good way for each works.
